older trinity monster horsepower motor

older trinity monster horsepower motor

i was wondering if one of you guys could tell me what turn this motor is it has no number on it but i thought id ask hears a picture of it.. and i no you guys aren't traxxas but the xl5 is so post to support 12turn correct so why do my wires get hot when i run a 13turn motor..

I do not know what turn this motor is, BUT to answer your XL-5 ?

A XL-5 will run a motor down to a 12 turn 550 motor (Traxxas 12 turn is a 550 motor) OR a 15 turn 540 motor. The motor in your picture is a 540.

So IF your running a 13 turn 540 motor that is a NO, NO!!!

tmail is actually incorrect on this one. Lower turns equal faster speeds, faster acceleration, more heat, and less run time.
The motor you have may contain ball bearings. These improve performance but sacrifice run time/cooling. However, that isn't your problem. The motor you have is actually a 13-turn 540-sized motor that can produce more performance than the recommended 550-size Titan 12-turn motor. Bigger electric motors will usually produce more torque than speed.

Traxxas spec's for a XL-5 is

•15-turn motor limit for 540 size motors
•12-turn motor limit for 550 size motors

13 turn 540 motor is below the limit for a XL-5

BUT not a 550 motor.

So my answer is still correct.

Your mixing up fact from fiction:
- Lower Turns = Higher Top End/Less Torque.
- Higher Turns = Lower Top End/More Torque.
Crawlers use high-turn brushed motors. Electricity is produced more slowly in higher-turn motors because of how many copper wires/turns they need to pass through. They energy gets weaker for each turn they need to take but this results in better precision and cooling because the energy drains as it passes through the copper wires/turns inside your brushed motor.
Low-turn brushed motors are used for racing machines that need the speed and acceleration to get from one place to another in less time. Here is a good comparison for why brushed motors work like this... Is three miles shorter than one mile? OF COURSE NOT! That means a one-turn motor will take less time to transfer the energy throughout the motor while a twenty-seven turn motor will take 27-turns longer to transfer the energy. However, the electricity in lower motors travels so fast that it results in poor throttle control and high motor temperature. Your rotors can only take so much before they become worn-out. Black copper wires cannot transfer energy and that results in a brunt-out motor.

Your thinking of Brushless ESC's that have limits based on kilo-volts. You will fry the ESC if you exceed the KV limit.

A Traxxas XL-5 is a brush esc and the motor sizes listed are brush motors and the motor asked about is a brushed motor.

Looks like you missed he's question >>> why do my wires get hot when i run a 13turn motor.

By the esc spec's he using a motor that is NOT with in the esc spec's

550 motor >>> 12 to 27
540 motor >>> 15 to 27
